PROPOSAL:

Tests

Prerequisites:

• Have an account with the dateBoundMileageRate beta access
• Create multiple distance rates on the workspace with different date bounds:
  • Rate A: "2025 mileage" — $0.50/mile, start: 2025-01-01, end: 2025-12-31
  • Rate B: "2026 mileage" — $0.60/mile, start: 2026-01-01, end: 2026-12-31
  • Rate C: "Default rate" — $0.55/mile, no dates (unbounded)

Test 1: Initial rate selection matches expense date

1. Open the workspace expense chat
2. Create a new distance request
3. Verify the auto-selected rate matches today's date (Rate B if today is in 2026)

Test 2: Bounded rate beats unbounded rate

1. Create a new distance request with today's date (2026)
2. Verify Rate B (bounded, 2026) is selected over Rate C (unbounded)

Test 3: Narrower date range wins

1. Add a fourth rate: Rate D — $0.65/mile, start: 2026-06-01, end: 2026-06-30
2. Create a distance request with a date in June 2026
3. Verify Rate D (narrower range) is selected over Rate B (wider range)

Test 4: Fallback to default when no eligible bounded rate

1. Create a distance request with a date in 2024 (before any bounded rate)
2. Verify Rate C (unbounded) is selected since no bounded rate covers 2024

Test 5: Last selected rate respected when eligible

1. Create a distance request and manually change the rate to Rate B
2. Submit the request
3. Create another distance request with a date still in 2026
4. Verify Rate B is auto-selected (last selected, still eligible)

Test 6: Last selected rate skipped when ineligible

1. After Test 5, create a distance request with a date in 2025
2. Verify Rate A (2025 bounded) is selected instead of Rate B (last selected but ineligible for 2025)

Test 7: P2P distance request unaffected

1. Open a DM (non-workspace) chat
2. Create a distance request
3. Verify the P2P rate is used (no date-aware logic applies)

Test 8: Global create with participant selection

1. Start a distance request from the global FAB (+)
2. Select a workspace participant
3. Verify the auto-selected rate is date-appropriate for today

Test 9: Track distance expense

1. Create a track distance expense (Self DM)
2. Verify the rate selected is date-appropriate based on the policy for moving expenses

Test 10: No regression — workspaces without date-bound rates

1. Use a workspace where no rates have start/end dates
2. Create a distance request
3. Verify the default rate selection behavior is unchanged (last selected or default rate)

It adheres to proper capitalization guidelines (note: only the first word of header/labels should be capitalized), and is either coming verbatim from figma or has been approved by marketing (in order to get marketing approval, ask the Bug Zero team member to add the Waiting for copy label to the issue)
  • I verified proper file naming conventions were followed for any new files or renamed files. All non-platform specific files are named after what they export and are not named "index.js". All platform-specific files are named for the platform the code supports as outlined in the README.
  • I verified the JSDocs style guidelines (in STYLE.md) were followed
• If a new code pattern is added I verified it was agreed to be used by multiple Expensify engineers
• I followed the guidelines as stated in the Review Guidelines
• I tested other components that can be impacted by my changes (i.e. if the PR modifies a shared library or component like Avatar, I verified the components using Avatar are working as expected)
• I verified all code is DRY (the PR doesn't include any logic written more than once, with the exception of tests)
• I verified any variables that can be defined as constants (ie. in CONST.ts or at the top of the file that uses the constant) are defined as such

  • The assets load correctly across all supported platforms.
• If the PR modifies code that runs when editing or sending messages, I tested and verified there is no unexpected behavior for all supported markdown - URLs, single line code, code blocks, quotes, headings, bold, strikethrough, and italic.
• If the PR modifies a generic component, I tested and verified that those changes do not break usages of that component in the rest of the App (i.e. if a shared library or component like Avatar is modified, I verified that Avatar is working as expected in all cases)
