base→基底要素と訳すと、誤解は生じないかもしれませんが、違和感を感じる方はおられるかもしれません。適した言葉は思いつかないのですが、もし他のページに現れなければ、たとえば「対象文字」や文脈によっては単に「文字」というように意訳してしまっても良いような気がしますがいかがでしょうか？

そうですね、基底要素とすると分かりづらいため変更したいと思います。
文字としてしまうと単体の文字という印象を与えてしまいそうなので、「対象の要素」等とするのが良さそうに思えるためそのように変更いたします。
