We provide opportunities for employees to find their passion, engage in their communities, and double their impact.

GitHub employees can double their impact up to $15,000/year through our company match program and receive $25 for every 1 hour of volunteering to donate to a nonprofit of their choice.

The Seeing Eye

The Seeing Eye aims to boost independence, dignity, and confidence for the blind with training Seeing Eye dogs. Since 2022, GitHub employees have raised funds to name three pups: Octo, Mona, and Hubot.

Refuse Refuse

Refuse Refuse is a grassroots volunteer effort dedicated to creating trash-free neighborhoods in San Francisco. GitHub volunteers roll up their sleeves to help clean up the streets and parks of San Francisco, including at our annual GitHub Universe conference.

Plastic Whale

Since 2022, GitHub employees have volunteered with Plastic Whale to clean up plastic waste from Amsterdam’s canals, local parks, beaches, and forests. GitHub volunteer teams have helped preserve Amsterdam’s natural spaces by collecting 92 bags of trash filled with bottles, cans, plastic, and glass.

Hubber Champions

Our Hubber Champion ambassador program activates GitHub employees to rally their peers around the causes they care about. Champions lead volunteer events and giving initiatives across regions and teams, helping to foster connection and purpose companywide. Each year, the program continues to grow, building a more diverse network of passionate advocates driving social impact from within.

Skills-based Volunteering

GitHub's skills-based volunteering program connects developers passionate about social impact with organizations in the social sector. Through short-term, high-impact projects, we match skilled employees with partners to help tackle their technical and strategic challenges.

Inter-American Development Bank

The Inter-American Development Bank aims to alleviate poverty in Latin America by supporting infrastructure. We collaborated on a data-driven tool for Brazil’s new school placement using UrbanPy to aid urban planners in leveraging data for accessibility, especially in remote areas.

Ersilia

Ersilia uses AI and ML models for drug discovery to equip universities, hospitals, and labs in low-resourced countries with data science tools for infectious and neglected disease research. We’ve partnered with them on skills-based volunteering projects to support their technical efforts.

Watch Duty

Humanitarian response nonprofit Watch Duty has revolutionized wildfire alerts and firefighting efforts in real time through their mobile app and web browser. Our skills-based volunteers have worked to provide users with meaningful and actionable power outage data as they make decisions on their reaction to disasters.
