Simplify Standard Input

Just a suggestion and my personal preference and may be shared with other Rusteceans, but could it be possible to simplify the Standard Input in std::old_io so it would be as 'simple' as like C/C++ ?

If you want something like this in the stdlib, it might be a good idea to propose an API, And if you have a good API in mind, you should implement it out-of-tree so it can be reviewed and accepted. That was the consensus of the linked RFC.

It's a compiler plugin and compiler plugins won't be available in 1.0.

Note that you can still use this in the nightly channel, post-1.0, and that solidifying compiler plugins is something that people really want, so hopefully will be focused on post-1.0

AFAIK "what's wrong with a crate?" remains the consensus here.

Although having one in std is better, I can bear with a crate.

Is there any crate you would recommend, since scan is neither on crates.io nor maintained well?
