JavaEmbeddedFrame visible on taskbar

As of Mint 13, running JDownloader (and probably other Java applications that have a tray icon) displays an additional window on the taskbar called JavaEmbeddedFrame. This frame is used by Java to display the tray icon. The frame can not be actually shown (only the taskbar icon is there) or closed. Additionally, attempting to close/hide it a couple of times, invariantly crashes Cinnamon completely. Running the very same version of JDownloader on Cinnamon 1.4 on Mint 12 did not display this frame.

This happens to me, too. As a temporary solution, I move this window to another workspace where I can't see it. I know this is just a workaround, in fact, it seems like JavaEmbeddedFrame is made a interesting window by error. Function is in cinnamon-window-tracker.c

ok i tested it, here it is only on the classic panel mode. can you confirm ?!

Switching to Oracle JVM solved the problem, so it seems to be an OpenJRE issue (never liked it, to begin with). I installed the latest Java 6, did not try with 7.

I have the same problem. Did they fixed it in version 6? When did they fixed it?

Originally I was using the latest OpenJRE and IcedTea when the problem occured. I still got this issue using Oracle's Java 7 Update 10 with JDownloader on Mint 14. Do I need to downgrade to Java 6 Update 33 to fix this problem? Currently I get a JavaEmbeddedFrame tab on my taskbar when I use JDownloader.

Could be worth a try if one of you installed 6 update 33 to know if it's a regression in Cinnamon or Java.
