Under some conditions - see 'Steps to reproduce' for detail - opening Mint's menu makes the panel obscure the menu's search box.

I managed (despite this) to get a screenshot:

The proximate cause seems to be as follows. When and only when (1) 'Force the panel to be visible when opening the menu' is false, and (2) one opens the menu with the keyboard, the menu appears too far up the screen.

Steps to reproduce

1. Have an autohiding top panel.
2. Have this menu option disabled: 'Force the panel to be visible when opening the menu'.
3. Have the pointer outside the panel-opening trigger area.
4. Open Mint's menu by using a keyboard shortcut.
5. Start typing - and do not move the pointer.
6. See that the panel drops down, obscuring one's typing - and stay's down until one clicks somewhere outside the trigger area.

Expected behavior

5 should not happen.

I am 95% certain this is related to the following pull request. #11779

I have been dealing with the same issue ever since the Cinnamon 6.4.0 release last November. There was discussion about reverting the pull request in early December 2024 but I have not heard anything since.

I, too, have my panel at the top of the monitor and have noticed this same behavior with the panel set on auto-hide.

To reproduce, disable the "Force the panel to be visible ..." option in the Menu configuration. Then hit the Super key. The menu opens at the top of the screen, and the panel then opens on top of it. If you display the panel first and then click on the Menu icon, the menu is displayed properly.

Likewise, if you enable said configuration option, the Menu opens with enough of a gap for the panel not to obscure it.

This is clearly a bug in the Menu configuration, because the Panel is always displayed, even when it's not supposed to be. And allow me to note that I wish the option worked properly again, because I prefer not to see the panel when I open the menu.
