Status update — develop as of 2026-06-18

The original problem — Dependabot branches #767 and #798 proposing drifted Astro upgrades — is effectively obsolete. The Awesome GitHub site was completely rebuilt from scratch as a production Astro 5 static site (#840, merged #841). The Dependabot branches were targeting the old React/Babel prototype that no longer exists.

The website/package.json now tracks Astro 5 directly. Recommend closing this issue as not_planned — the upgrade path was superseded by the full rebuild — and letting Dependabot open fresh PRs against the new website/ structure if any Astro patch updates are needed.
