Resolves #413, fixes a bunch of warnings/suggestions (I mostly skipped the test and telemetry projects for now) and also switches the .editorconfig var setting to suggest the explicit type name rather than suggesting var.
Added #418 to track one error that I wasn't positive about how to fix at the moment, but didn't want to block the rest of this.
