[HOLD for payment 2022-05-02] Feature Request: Ignore periods when searching for a user by their email address  #8007

Description

If you haven’t already, check out our contributing guidelines for onboarding and email contributors@expensify.com to request to join our Slack channel!

Problem:

Sometimes people include a period . in their email address. For gmail, there is no difference between m.allen@ and mallen@, they both work. In NewDot, if someone has a period in their email address, you have to include it in the search or else their email won't be returned. ie. searching mallen would return m.allen@

Solution:

Disregard periods when searching.

Context/Examples/Screenshots/Notes:

Should we consider other symbols too?

Action Performed:

  1. Open app
  2. Hit search on top
  3. Type any email with the period and hit search

Expected Result:

User should be able to find same email with or without periods

Actual Result:

If user is registered with period and user searches without period, user is not found

Workaround:

unknown
