Action Performed:

Prerequisite: Account has at least one workspace.
Prerequisite 2: No expenses created on account yet.

1. Open the Expensify app.
2. Navigate to "Reports"
3. Navigate through different sections (Submit, Reports, Expenses), so they are already loaded for following steps.
4. Navigate to any workspace chat.
5. Create a manual expense.
6. Turn off internet connection.
7. Navigate to "Reports" again.
8. Switch through different sections.
9. Note that all the sections still show empty state screen.
10. While still on "Reports" turn on internet connection again.
11. Note that expense is still not displayed.
12. Switch to another section.
13. Note that expense appears.

Expected Result:

Expense created while online, should automatically appear on "Reports", despite navigating offline.

Actual Result:

Expense created while online, is not automatically displayed on "Reports" when navigating offline. After turning internet connection on again, expense still doesn´t appear.
Expesne only appears after recovering internet connection and navigating to a different section on "Reports".

What is the root cause of that problem?

The Reports/Expenses lists (Search view) did not proactively refresh when network connectivity was restored while the user remained on the same screen. The existing effects that load data didn’t always re-run on reconnect, so the list remained stale until a navigation event.

What changes do you think we should make in order to solve the problem?

Add an explicit reconnect handler in the Search component via useNetwork. When connectivity is restored and the Search screen is focused, trigger a refresh using the current query parameters, so new data appears immediately without requiring navigation.

Additionally, earlier failures could clear cached results when a search fired just as the app was actually offline (false-negative offline window). The reconnect-triggered refresh ensures the snapshot is repopulated immediately after connectivity returns, avoiding empty states without requiring a section switch.

Behavior without a connectivity change (offline before navigating)

• The search snapshot is created and cached initially (it is empty then).
• The expense is created from a workspace chat (Search is not focused). Expense creation writes optimistic Onyx entries (transactions/reports/actions) using the same keyed records referenced by the cached Search snapshot.
• When the user later navigates to Reports → Expenses while offline, the list renders from the cached snapshot that now includes the optimistic updates, so the new expense appears.

What specific scenarios should we cover in automated tests to prevent reintroducing this issue in the future?
