Weird error doing existing

I got

$ python3-pip-skeleton existing --from-branch dls-python3-release --package machine_status_hybrid --org DiamondLightSource .
fatal: Not a valid commit name ededf00035e6ccfac78946213009c1ecd7c110a9

But superficially it seems to have succeeded to do the merge and commit.

The named commit is one from this cli repo

Any thoughts? Maybe not too worrying if it worked, but the "fatal" makes you think it hasn't.

The root of the cli repo is the same as the root of the skeleton repo, the commit ededf00.

The error message is probably when this function is run:

But I'm confused we've never seen this message before. If it happens for you (assuming machine_status_hybrid has never adoped skeleton), then I'd expect it to be printed for every repo that adopts skeleton for the first time.

I have not seen it. Maybe a git version thing?

I have git 2.31.1. The repo is almost empty and hasn't adopted skeleton before. I haven't seen the message before, though this is the first time I've used --from-branch.
