Hello everyone,
I would like to suggest an accessibility improvement for Linux Mint and the Linux desktop in general: a built-in Live Captions feature.
Windows and ChromeOS already provide system-wide live captions, which can automatically transcribe audio from videos, calls, meetings, and other apps. This is very helpful for deaf and hard-of-hearing users, people learning a new language, and anyone who needs better accessibility in noisy environments.
Linux Mint already has some useful accessibility options, but live captions are still not available as a native, easy-to-use feature. There are some third-party tools, but they are not as integrated, reliable, or beginner-friendly as the solutions on Windows and ChromeOS.
It would be great to see Linux Mint support system-wide live captions, preferably with offline processing, privacy protection, and support for multiple languages, including English, Portuguese, Spanish, and others.
Accessibility is an important part of making Linux available to everyone. Adding live captions would make Linux Mint more inclusive and easier to recommend to users who depend on accessibility features.
Thank you for your work on Linux Mint and for considering this suggestion.
