Contribution graph not updating after valid commits

Hello GitHub Community,

I noticed that my contribution graph is not updating — even after multiple valid commits and pushes, no green squares (contributions) appear on my profile.

I’ve already checked:

• My commit email matches my GitHub account email
• Commits are on the main branch (default)
• The repository is public
• “Include private contributions” is enabled

I also tested this on a friend’s GitHub account, and the same issue occurs there too.

Could someone confirm if this might be a temporary system issue or suggest how to fix it?

Wait 24–48 hours to see if the graph updates, as temporary outages or delays do happen.

If the issue persists, try these actions:

1.If you are making commits in a private repository, make sure to enable “Show private contributions” in your GitHub profile settings—otherwise, these contributions will not appear on your contribution graph.

2.Double-check your local git config email using:

git config user.email
and confirm it matches your GitHub profile email (not just the account, but the verified primary email) ,Run it in CMD.

3.Verify that commits are pushed to a repository that is not a fork (forked repo commits may not always count).

Report the issue via GitHub Support or GitHub Discussions, including details and steps you've taken.

If you have forked a repo and are contributing to the forked repo, it won't show on your contribution graph

1. Even if the email matches, GitHub also requires the commit to be associated with your account via the author/committer info.

   Run:
   git log --pretty=full
   And check that the Author: line matches your GitHub username/email. 🧐

2. Commits made via some third-party tools, CI systems, or merges done through pull requests might not count as contributions unless they are direct commits authored by your account.

3. If the repository was private and then made public, contributions may take some time to appear. Sometimes logging out and back in refreshes the graph.

   ❗ Occasionally, GitHub’s graph takes several hours or even a day to update for new commits, even when everything is correctly configured. 🤔
