Brackets Halts when Clicking into *.js file

Javascript or jQuery files cause Brackets to load (uses mouse cursor loading graphic) and temporarily halts all use of brackets until it is finished doing whatever it is doing. I have done a lot of searching on Google and have not even seen this issue, nor a solution.

Have you tried to disable all extensions? How powerful is your computer?

@Mulacor can you tell us the results of this test?

1. Choose Debug > Show Developer Tools from the menu
2. Click the Console tab
3. Enter require("project/ProjectManager").getAllFiles().done(function (list) { console.log(list.length); }) -- what number is printed out when it's done?
4. Enter require("project/ProjectManager").getAllFiles(require("project/ProjectManager").getLanguageFilter("javascript")).done(function (list) { console.log(list.length); }) -- what number does this one print out?
5. If you leave Brackets open for a while after it is frozen, do you eventually see a message box that says "JavaScript File Inference Problem"?

Also, the answer to @Apfeluser's question above is important: if you select Debug > Reload Without Extensions, does the problem still happen?

#4 output is: "120"

I have never encountered a "JavaScript File Inference Problem," at least as far as I know, since there are no message boxes.

@Apfeluser I have had this problem with no extensions. Right now I am using no extensions and I still get the freeze. This has happened for at least two different JavaScript files.

1st file: 1477 lines of code
2nd file: 495 lines of code

And my PC should be more than adequate. I have an Alienware m18x R2. I could go into all the specs, but if giving the editor 10gb's of RAM access would help, I'd do it (I have 32gb). I use the computer to do graphical and video work and it handles it well. So, when it can do all this, I get confused as to why it is hiccuping/slowing-down. I tried finding a spot to increase RAM amount, I didn't find such a spot (if there is one).

@peterflynn I looked over the article link you sent me. If I'm reading correctly, I'm having a similar issue as @bfrohs. It happens before I get to type anything. If I keep clicking the Windows box will say that "the application isn't responding and would I like to close it or wait for it to respond," or something like that. Of course, I wait for it to respond. What my solution has been so far is to use Brackets for my HTML and CSS and Notepad++ for my JavaScript files, because it has no issues regarding this.

It can't be the lines of code though. My HTML files and CSS files can be similarly as long and it isn't bothered by it.

1st HTML file: 514 lines of code
1st CSS file: 1546 lines of code

2nd HTML file: 953 lines of code
2nd CSS file: 1631 lines of code

I have no slowdown with these files.

@Mulacor With the results of your tests, it sounds like a different issue afterall. Are you able to share any of the JS files that are causing the problem? If not, are you able to simplify one of the files into a version that is ok to share? (For example, rename variables, remove comments, delete some of the code -- checking periodically that the problem still occurs after your changes).

Also, here's one other test you could do: in your preferences file, set "codehint.JSHints" to false and then restart Brackets. Does the problem still occur after that?

I have tried the edit to the preferences file. For some odd reason it seems this is fixing the problem I've been having. I'd like to update you by the end of the week before this issue is marked solved to make sure it is working better. I tested it a little bit, but I think a proper QA test is in order. I'll keep you posted. :)

@Mulacor I dumped that file into the default 'Getting Started' project that comes with Brackets, but I'm able to open and edit it just fine in that case. It might require more of the projects in your file to recreate the problem scenario... Are you able to try copying a few files into an empty folder until it's enough to trigger the bug?
